Introduction

Candidates must attempt all four modules. The college will only issue a Certificate in General English Language if the candidates pass all four modules.
 
The Trinity ESOL Skills for Life examinations (Level1/CEFR B2) are designed specifically in accordance with the Adult ESOL Core Curriculum. They are designed for: 
 
Students wishing to go further for higher studies in colleges/universities
Settled communities
Refugees and asylum seekers
Migrant workers
 
You can gain an English language qualification to prove your proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Whether you live in the UK or overseas, an English language qualification is highly valued by every educational establishment in the world. This course brings a new dimension to language learning.

Course and Exam Structure

Component 1.

Task 1 – Exchange of information about personal past events. Up to 4 minutes.

Task 2 – Presentation – describing a process. Up to 3 minutes

Task 3 – Role-play – formal requests for factual information, descriptions and

Comparisons. Up to 3 minutes

Component 2.

Problem solving – dealing with common everyday problems and

giving advice and suggesting solutions. Up to 15 minutes

Reading

National Literacy Test – Multiple choice format (40 items)

Total time allowed: 60 minutes

Writing

Task 1 – Write a record of extended personal data for official purposes (e.g.

annual appraisal form): About 200 words

Task 2 – Write a formal report making comparisons, e.g. countries,

lifestyles, jobs (e.g. article about differences between treatment of elderly

people in 2 countries you know): About 300 words

Task 3 – Write an informal letter setting out a problem (real or imaginary) and

asking for advice (e.g. letter about a problem with accommodation): About 150 words

Total time allowed: 100 minutes
